What exactly is MusicStream?
It’s a digital music service designed to help businesses meet the challenge of sourcing and controlling their music. Because the music is licence free no PRS or PPL fees are payable when MusicStream is used exclusively.read more iconMore

What hardware and technology do I need?
No special hardware is needed. MusicStream is delivered via software downloaded onto any Windows/Mac PC or laptop and many Android tablets. So long as you have an internet connection, a computer [with sound card … nearly all do], and an audio system (amp and speakers), you can use MusicStream. We even offer our own bundled touchscreen tablet with MusicStream pre-installed and ready to go straight out of the box (including the cables needed to connect it to your amp). If you have speciallist installation needs contact us on 0844 8010 710 and we can advise. read more iconMore

What does licence-free mean?
If a composer or composition and recording artist / recording are not registered with any collection societies (in the U.K. it’s the PRS and PPL respectively), then the resulting music is 'licence-free' meaning no licence is required for public performance.read more iconMore

What music can I play through MusicStream?
You can play any track in the MusicStream catalogue of licence-free music. This ensures all the music you play is licence-free so you don't have to pay PRS or PPL fees. You can't play your own music otherwise the service would no longer be licence-free.

Can I stop paying PRS and / or PPL immediately?
Once you have subscribed to the MusicStream service you can notify the PRS in writing asking for a refund for the remainder of your license period [less 28 days notice]. Unfortunately the PPL refuse to give refunds, unless your license was purchased within the last 14 days. We can provide you with a standard letter to inform the PRS and PPL of your licence-free status and exempt you from paying for their licences.

Can I carry on playing the radio and still avoid paying PRS / PPL?
No, because playing the radio to staff or customers constitutes a public performance, and practically all tracks played on radio require a PRS and PPL licence. Even if you only play the radio to staff in a back-office office for example, you would still need a specific PRS and PPL licence to cover this.read more iconMore

The standard charge is £10 per site per month for our 12 month agreement. There is also a 3 month option for businesses wanting an extended trial. Certain additional services, such as zoning incur a small incremental charge. For full details see the features and pricing section or talk to our sales team.
